2007 Carolina Junior Classic

Buzz Rogers hosted the first junior tournament that offered team competition for a traveling trophy in the state of South Carolina.  Buzz has been hosting junior clinics an junior tournaments at his site since he first started having tournaments a few years ago.  Along with his wife Rae and lake partner Ron Lyles, they hosted a magnificent event that was fun for the juniors, parents and officials.

South Carolina and North Carolina both sent great teams.  South Carolina won the team trophy with the help of skiers that caught on to the team concept.  Some stepped up to do events that they had never really done before to help get those badly need team points.  One such skier was G3 Skier, Summer McNairy who went out unopposed to trick and win those team points.  Her participation in tricks turned out to be the margin of victory for the South Carolina team.

The scoring was done using a modified version of collegiate scoring.  The winning score in an event was 100 points with 2nd being 90, and so on down the line.  If the size of the teams in an event were unbalanced the scoring stopped at the first empty position as not to give a team an unfair advantage.  This flexible structure proved to be fair, and promoted participation.

Buzz is planning an even better event for next year with the hopes that he will get Georgia participation in addition to the NC and SC participation.

2007 Junior Development Clinic

On May 26th at H2Osmosis Sports Training Center, located at Trophy Lakes,
the South Carolina Water Ski Federation along with H2Osmosis Sports put on a
Junior Development clinic for the South Carolina Juniors.  Although several
skiers were not available on the weekend in question, we had a great group
of 9 juniors.  They jumped, tricked and slalomed and some of them have shown
real progress over the past year.  We are very proud of our South Carolina
Juniors and hope that they continue to grow and prosper over the next few
years.
